Last night we went out to the Ladies market, which is only a couple of blocks from our hotel. Bill was a little disappointed that we were going there, but the second stall provided him with his first bargain - a Mao Tshirt - and there was no looking back from there.
We had tea at a funny little noodle shop where no English was spoken at all, but luckily they understood our Cantonese for beer, and the rest was managed with a bit of pointing and a fair bit of guesswork and then just eating whatever turned up!
Our hotel is very posh.
Today was warm and sunny, and we took the opportunity to go up on the tram to the Peak - a great view even though still a lot of haze. Kate and Bill had an encounter with Jackie Chan. Went down to Aberdeen harbour, and got stuck in traffic jam so decided to walk along the waterfront, but we were persuaded by an old lady driving a sampan (type of boat) to have a ride, which turned out to be a great way to see the harbour, winding in between house boats and fishing boats down to the big floating restauarant.
Great dim sum for lunch (another no English experience), and now the kids are in the hotel pool working up an appetite for tea. Definitely no weight to be lost on this trip.
